My First Time Using Henna

A couple days ago I used Henna for the first time and I really loved the results. If you don’t know what henna is it is a reddish-orange dye prepared from the dried ground leaves of the Lawsonia inermis a tree or shrub of the Middle East that can be used to dye hair, leather, and fabrics or decorate the skin.

I did some research on the benefits of the use of henna and from everything that I read it sounded like a healthier alternative to dye my hair without harsh chemicals.

Some of the pros are

  • It strengthens hair strains

  • Balances hair porosity

  • Reduces or eliminates dandruff

  • Thickens hair

  • Less shedding

Some of the cons are

  • The buildup of henna can change your curl pattern

  • It’s permanent so it’s hard to cover over with regular hair color with is lighter than henna

  • Some people experience dry hair

  • Application time

The Brand that I used was Reshma it is 30 mins sit time but I left it one longer because my hair is a virgin when it comes to color and since this was a less harsh dye job I thought it might not take after just 30 mins. So I let is set for an hour.

My experience is that I wish I would have let it set for longer since the color didn’t show up other than making my hair look blacker it didn’t have a blue tint. My hair is a dark brown color already. Before I applied the henna my hair never really had a shine. But not it does which I love it already looks a lot healthier than before. The verdict is still out on the other benefits. But I know for sure that I will be using it again and hopefully I’ll get the color I want then.
