Keep Austin Weird
Spring Break 2015 I went to Austin Texas. It was my first time visiting but I was very surprised at how great it was. I loved it as soon as I stepped off the plan and saw their slogan “Keep Austin Weird”. For a majority of my life I’ve heard “you’re weird,” so I felt like I was somewhere I might be appreciated if I ever chose to live there. Maybe, I’m still deciding where I want to move to after I eventually graduate from college.
Anyway I have a friend Will that lives in Austin and he gave my mom and me a room while we visited. I believe it’s been about four or so years since we’ve seen each other face to face. The last time was when we were both station in South Carolina together. It was a little awkward at first but it felt like old times after a day.
I got to meet his beau Dan who was sweet and hilarious. I can’t keep a relationship to save my life. But I’m happy that he has met someone that I think he will spend that rest of his life with.
The traffic in Austin was crazy and by the end of the week I had finally started to get the hang out it. But not before making numerous wrong turns and having a GPS that’s didn’t seemed to concern with the fact that I missed a turn until I was miles in the wrong direction. That was my first time using the rental car places GPS and I think it will be my last.
There were a lot of cool places that we did visit. When I wasn’t overwhelmed with the traffic. There were also I lot of great food places.
We visited 6th Street: The Texas version of Bourbon Street http://6street.com/
The weird museum where after watching the last AHS. I thought it was great we got to see a Freak Show performance. http://www.museumoftheweird.com/news/
We visited the Bullock Texas State History Museum. They have the lost remains of a ship that was lost in 1684. The La Belle, http://www.thestoryoftexas.com/
I had a lot of delicious food from some local places. I don’t really take pictures of food so I didn’t have any to show. But here are some of the places. I also had a breakfast taco which was delicious and I could definitely get fat for those!
Hop Doddy’s a burger place: http://www.hopdoddy.com/I
I didn’t have a burger I ate half of my mom’s along with fries and a Oreo Milkshake
Trudy’s that has tex mex: http://www.trudys.com/
I had the Beef Fajita Chimichanga A huge crispy flour tortilla filled with beef fajita, Monterey Jack cheese, green onion, fresh jalapeños, and cilantro. Placed on a bed of our new verdes cream, a blend of cream and our famous green table salsa, and served with a side of our chile con queso. Served with Spanish rice and choice of beans.
Rudy’s a local BBQ: http://www.rudysbbq.com/page/location/name/bbq-austin%20-%20183
Iron Cactus Mexican: http://ironcactus.com/
I had the Pollo Relleno
Tender breast of chicken stuffed with Iron Cactus corn bread and cheddar cheese, topped with our delicious jalapeño cream sauce. Served with Mexican rice and garlic herb broccoli.
Austin was a awesome city and I would love to come and visit again. I would recommend anybody that wants to visit an up and coming city to visit as well. It on my list of places I would live in for sure.
